03 - Video | Action

[ Video ]

[ When Ash turns on his video in the morning to show him and his buddy Pikachu perched on his shoulder he looks... tired. It takes a sound from Pikachu in order to even realize that his journal was already on and that he had been staring blankly into the screen. With the small realization he pulls together a smile and gets down to talking. ]

Uh... Hi. I'm Ash and this is my buddy Pikachu.

[ He's calm. Perhaps a bit too calm to people who knows him when he speaks. If it isn't noticeable right then and there it will be when he started talking again because while there is some enthusiasm it's nothing like what it normally is. ]

So Friendship and Rival Day is comin' up on June 28th and I wanted t' have a party to celebrate. Some people gave me ideas like battles, movies, video games, and other kind o' things that people can do with old friends and new friends. There's gonna be a lot of food there too.

But thing is my friends Cilan and Chili can't make all the food on their own. I was wonderin' if people could make or bring food and drinks to Friendship and Rival Day. Maybe some other things like more video games or other kinds o' games t' play. Or anythin' else we might need for it.

Also, I'm wonderin' where would be th' best place for it. Someone said th' Battledome would be a good place. Is that okay or does anyone have a better place in mind. If there isn't and the Battledome isn't ok I think it could happen at th' house I'm stayin' at.

If y' have any questions or somethin' I wanna hear 'em. I'll also be 'round Luceti checkin' some things out so y' can always come talk t' me too.

[ He pushes a bigger smile and a little more enthusiasm into this last bit. ]

Let's make this a great first Friendship and Rival Day! I look forward to it!

[ Action ]

[ Although Ash should probably still be resting he can be found in several places around Luceti with, of course, Pikachu. Most notably he'll be checking things out at the Battledome and also going to several of the places to eat such as Seventh Heaven and the Bakery. He can also be found at the fountain resting or maybe trying to figure out what to do next and can't forget any stores that would have things for parties.

And lastly he can also be found back at House 11. Either in the Kitchen eating food, in his room doing well.. whatever probably letting his true feelings out, or just lying around the house because he knows that, as much as he would like to get back to training, doing so would probably result in certain people coming out and telling him to stop because Ash no your body and mind are not ready for this yet you shouldn't even really be out wandering Luceti all day. ]

[What the what

Things are NOT supposed to grow in size like that. This is already going to be a failed project and he hasn't even gotten to the Pokémon storage mechanism yet. He'd make a mention of it, but before he can even get that, Ash is already calling his Pokémon out.

As the two Pokémon appear, somehow he's at least more okay with that (since he already knew that that was part of the mystery), but seeing the monsters come out was interesting. However, "introducing" his Pokémon to him is a little more intimidating when one of them is an on-fire dragon that's about as tall as he is.]

Uh, hello...?

[He backs away a little bit from them, though Sokka's eyes fall to the Snivy instead.]

So... I'm guessing the big one is Charizard? [Seemed like an appropriate name for a fire-breathing dragon monster.] And this one is Snivy? What exactly is he supposed to be?

Oh.

[Well, clearly that's the smoothest introduction Sokka has ever had. Ahem. Give him a break, Snivy; you're the second Pokémon he's ever met! Still, Sokka is kind of amazed at how humanlike Snivy's reactions are... not to mention Pikachu's.]

Oh, I see what you mean by grass-type now. He, I mean, she has a little leaf thing on her tail. [Sokka and Snivy will be best friends for sure now.] Now I get what you were saying earlier. The type isn't what they're made out of but what they control.

Just like how it works in Avatar World.

[Well, clearly this was much more complicated than bending really.]

Well in my world, we've got benders, people who can control the four elements! Not everyone can, but there's still a fair number. My sister is a waterbender, my friend Toph was an earthbender, Zuko's a firebender, and Aang's an airbender.

But Aang is special because he's the Avatar; that means he can control all four.

But even he can't boomerangbend like I can!

[It should be very clear that Sokka is totally making up that last one.]
theideaguy: (confident)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-07-17 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, pretty much. Though some animals can bend the elements too. Earthbending was actually invented by the badger-moles, and airbending by the flying bisons. And yeah, Wan's a firebender, too, though he doesn't come from our time. He's from way in the past, I'm told.

[Yes, he knows it's not a real type of bending, Ash. Let him have this.]

The best there is!

[The best he's ever met, at least. The only one he's ever met that also threw boomerangs is his father.]
theideaguy: (excited)

Yeah, pretty much. Though he's one of the few from a different time, but I suppose I've gotten over how weird it is. Having my future great niece here is nice.

[However, at the opportunity to show off his boomerang "bending" skills, Sokka grins widely. He thought you'd never ask. He takes his boomerang out of the sleeve on his back (oh yes, he carries it around everywhere here in Luceti) and looks off to the distance.]

Gladly! You see that smokestack on top of the smithy? Watch this.

[He wets his finger against his tongue and tests the air before setting his stance towards the smithy. He aims there momentarily before immediately turning about 60 degrees away from it. He winds up and, with a flick of the wrist, he tosses the boomerang into the air. It curves around in a wide arc, eventually over the smithy, clanging off the smokestack, and then sputtering back. Sokka watches the boomerang's arc and then runs off a few steps and jumps up to catch it in the air.]

[He walks back, feeling quite happy with himself. All the better that Ash seems utterly amazed by that.]

For a few years now. Dad gave me this beauty what... [He starts counting on his fingers: one, two, three, four...] four or five years ago? I would practice every day with this for a long while. It took a few months before I could pull shots like that.

Oh and yeah, it's Ikki. Aang's grandchild from the future.

[Well, Ash, lots of practice and hard work is how you get good at something.]

It certainly feels like it's been a while. Five years ago seems like a long time after all I've been through. [I mean, seriously, the last three years have been quite the adventure.]

Well, yeah. Why not? [Because the sole purpose of the bending of their timeline is to destroy Sokka's sense of reality.] There was supposed to be someone else here from the future, buuuut I never heard from him. Who knows if he's still here. [He shrugs.]

[Sokka... the protector of all secrets!]

Anyway, still... you've got some impressive... pe--Pokémon there. I'll admit, they're quite the impressive lot. Even your Snivy. [Okay, there's a little sarcasm there. Not helping, Sokka.] So I take it you have your broken Poké Ball there?

[Sokka really isn't underestimating Snivy, but he's not one to kowtow to anyone (or anything) just to win its love. He's sure Snivy is totally capable, but he's not going to admit it.

Sokka takes the Poké ball and holds it closely, inspecting it with a deep focus for a few moments.]

Well, yeah, I can see why it doesn't work, obviously. Though it looks like it's made of just ordinary metal... but... not metal. It's definitely... something that I haven't seen before.

[Well, it certainly can't hurt!]

Alright.

Other than keeping your critters inside these things, what else do they do?

[Sokka nods along as Ash explains all of that in depth. Sokka at one point has actually seen the secret laptop in the tunnels (though admittedly he really doesn't fully know how it works), so all of that sounds (in a very very hand-wavey sense) something like that. Nevertheless, that's still a fair bit to take in.]

Okay, okay, let me make sure I've got all this.

[Sokka clears his throat to lay all this out much more elegantly.]

Pokémon are either wild or owned by a trainer, and the only differentiating factor is that trained Pokémon are associated with a very particular Poké Ball. Something about that pairing process must change the Pokémon so that other Poké Balls can't capture them... or even hold a creature that doesn't belong to it. But if you destroy that Poké Ball, the guy it's associated to immediately becomes wild again.

[He ponders a bit more about this.]

So how do these transfer machines work? And... you honestly can't have more than six Pokémon on you at one time? No one's figured out a way to get around that?

[Because if Sokka were in Pokémon World, that's what he'd be trying to do!]

Ooooh, right, that makes a little more sense.

Still, it's pretty clear there's something that binds each Pokémon to a Poké Ball. Something that uniquely marks a Pokémon so that it can only go in a specific Poké Ball.

If I can figure out exactly how the Ball tags each Pokémon, then that should tell me about how they're powered. And maybe, if I get that far, I can figure out a way to restore power to that one broken one.

[That's a lot of ifs, he realizes. Still, he sees a clear path to his goal—making it one step less likely that the trainers—the entire lot of them—have one less thing to worry about.]
theideaguy: (ahhh)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-08-01 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, this one? [Sokka looks at the white metal hemisphere.] Nah, this one is probably toast. I mean, if we found out how they worked, and we had the stuff here to reconstruct the other half, maybe it's possible? But I don't know if we could actually do that here.

[Sokka doesn't know how they're even made yet.]

But that one girl's broken one. That's the one that might still be fixable.

[Besides, that's the important one anyway.]
theideaguy: (calm)

[Hey, Sokka understands how important pets are to people. If he lost Momo or Appa, well... let's not go there. And they're not even his!]

Well, I'll definitely let you know if I come up with anything. And I'll make sure to get this back to you before too awful long. Otherwise, I suppose it's good to meet you?

[Also, it's good to meet Snivy. Even if he she doesn't feel the same.]
